The Mission

Like Superman, I have to have (for the time being) a day job while keeping my real identity (i.e., my hopes, dreams, & aspirations) secret.

This blog’s mission mirrors my own — it’s about acting, and only about acting (or things real closely related, mostly), but  it’s not about other things.

However, sometimes other things impinge on The Thing, and you have to deal with them.

This will be my only post about any “day job” I may have.  The “day job” is not important — it is, at best, a means to an end (NOTE: one needs to do one’s best “on the job,” but I mean you need to keep the job in perspective, keep your eye on the ball, on what you want; the job is simply a means to that end).

So Here’s What Happened

I hate applying for a day job — because, you know, what if I actually got one?

But out of this other fear of soon being homeless unless I do *something/anything* quick!, I decided I’d better start applying for one. And, I figured, with the recession, I’d have plenty of time before having to deal with it — only up to the point of homelessness, of course.

Well, it only took two god**n days to find one (sigh). While it doesn’t pay much, it will bring in some badly needed cash for meet and greets, training and headshots, and I don’t think the time commitment will be too bad, and it’s somewhat flexible.

And, to be honest, while I wasn’t panicked about $$, I was growing more worried, and that was starting to become a distraction & an insidious energy drain.

I actually feel better now, but it’s really underscored for me the importance of having a good aggressive plan of action to turn acting into a paying career, and I think I’ve got one (professionally first bit by bit, part time, then more time, then — with luck — full time, the “dream). Most likely can’t be done quickly or overnight, but it can be done if I keep my nose persistently to the grindstone, and that’s exactly what I intend to do!
