Over the past 5 years, I’ve had the opportunity to meet some successful actors, i.e., their “day job” is acting, either full or part time. In most all cases, the common factor has been confidence, i.e., you meet them, and — it’s not ego but honest grounded self-assurance — you know they know what they’re doing, i.e., you have faith and confidence in them, because they have faith and confidence in themselves. They just “know” they can “do it,” “it” being knowing that they can audition at a professional level, that they can fulfill the requirements of a scene or role.
Where does confidence come from?
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1).
Rosabeth Moss Kanter makes a singular point, over and over again, in her book Confidence: How Winning Steaks & Losing Streaks Begin and End: confidence comes from winning and winning comes from doing those things that lead to winning.
Napoleon Hill makes the point that Faith is action, that Faith is IN action: “Faith without works is dead.” You must plan and work for the results you want. Faith needs to work in AT THE SAME TIME with action, not independent of it. Faith IN action! Applied faith is the only faith that works. You must do in order to receive. Just thinking and anticipating is not enough. Act as if you knew the final outcome already, and it is the positive one you are expecting.
OK. I’m going to become confident. I’m going to become confident by taking action, by doing those things that lead to success, and I’ve got just the plan to do that.
What’s the plan? Stay tuned . . .
